FAQ about Electromagnetic Flowmeter Selection

According to statistics from authoritative organizations in the world, two-thirds of the flow meter failure cases are caused by inappropriate product selection and on-site installation. Understanding the knowledge related to flow meter selection helps you make informed decisions, leading to enhanced performance, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness in flow measurement applications.


Q1: What are the consideration factors when selecting electromagnetic flowmeters?

A1: 

• Required Basic Datas: 

①measured fluid( including chemical substance); 

②Max. flow, Min. flow and common flow; 

③Max. Working pressure; 

④Max. Temp., smin. Temp. 

• The measured fluid must be conductive, with conductivity> 5μS/cm.

• Confirm whether there is negative pressure in the process pipeline.


Q2: What is the accuracy of Micro Sensor electromagnetic flowmeter?

Note: If 0.5% measuring accuracy is required, you need provide the actual measuring range for us to get a more accurate selection when pipes diameter is above DN300. The premise of 0.2% accuracy is within DN300.


Q3: What is the lowest flow rate of an electromagnetic flowmeter measured?

A3: 

The lower limit of the flow rate is 0.5m/s. It is not recommended to use an electromagnetic flowmeter below the lowest flow rate.


Q4: What is the difference between the inline-type and the insertion type of electromagnetic flowmeter?

Q5: How long does the battery-powered electromagnetic flowmeter work?

A5: 

The battery-powered flow meter can normally work for 5~6 years by default under the reference environment. However, humidity and temperature influences on-site may affect the power supply time.


Q6:  How to choose the solar energy-powered or battery-powered electromagnetic flowmeter?

A6: 

Please choose the battery specifications depending on your on-site conditions and operating hours. MicroSensor supports the choices below:

① The solar panel specification is 100W.

② Three specifications of batteries: 12.8V*33Ah, 12.8V*50Ah, and 12.8V*100Ah.


Q7: Can the electromagnetic flowmeter support an insert-type pressure transmitter or temperature transmitter?

A7: 

The electromagnetic flowmeter with pressure detection connector can be used with MPM489 pressure transmitter. The pressure value can be read directly on the display screen of the flowmeter.

Temperature measurement requires external method. If the insertion type is used, turbulence will occur, affecting the flow field.


Q8: Is there an explosion-proof type electromagnetic flowmeter?

A8: 

Only the integral-type electromagnetic flowmeter offers an explosion-proof version. The remote type cannot meet the explosion-proof requirements.
