“Eco-flow online monitoring” is an important method for long-term monitoring and management, which plays an important role for the competent authorities to keep abreast of the flow discharge of hydropower stations and ensure the ecological water demand of downstream rivers.
In order to protect the river's ecological environment and promote scientific, rational, orderly development and sustainable use of water resources, local water conservancy and environmental protection departments have successively taken measures to rectify or supervise hydropower stations that do not meet the requirements for ecological flow discharge.
Based on the environmental status of ecological flow monitoring, the open channel flow monitoring method is generally adopted which the conventional method is to use Parshall flume, rectangular weir or triangle weir, and install the open channel flow meter to collect the water level to convert into flow data.
The open channel flow meter should be installed at one third of the inlet, and a bracket should be installed on the channel for installing the open channel flow meter. The level probe and the wireless flow collection terminal are mounted in a vertical bracket installed next to the channel. The open channel flow meter can be set to measure the groove as a trapezoidal groove, and set the width of the upper and lower turns, and automatically calculate the flow value according to the measured water level.
The data acquisition controller collects the water level and flow data of the open channel flow meter, and transmits the data wirelessly to the monitoring center in combination with the application of the wireless remote monitoring terminal to realize the comprehensive functions of the open channel flow data collecting, storage, alarming and transmitting.
In Northwest Sichuan Plateau - Xiaojin County, Aba Prefecture, an open channel flow meter, with the Micro Sensor Earth1006 wireless monitoring terminal products, is installed to realize onsite ecological water flow monitoring.
The device is running stably and the data transmission frequency is 1 min/time.
The ecological flow monitoring of hydropower station discharge is mainly based on automatic monitoring of water conditions. It can monitor water level and flow, and integrate functions such as rainfall and image monitoring to provide services for watershed ecological protection, water administration, and hydrology and water resources monitoring.
Based on the wide coverage of wireless networks, the system can detect real-time data of many monitoring points in a wide range of areas, especially for monitoring applications such as ecological flow, and also for application scenarios such as rural well irrigation.
